Jinny Street Gallery: Friends of Jinny
Jinny Street Gallery, an outdoor street art gallery located in Jingumae 2-chome, Shibuya, Tokyo, presented an art project titled “Friends of Jinny”. The project connected international illustrators with members of the local community to tell the city’s story.
In this group project, a total of 40 overseas artists were paired with residents and shop owners from the neighborhood of Jingumae 2-chome. Through sharing personal stories and moments from their daily lives, each pair collaboratively develops artwork. The artworks were exhibited in the unique outdoor Jinny Street Gallery setting, using streetlight display cases, blending into the neighborhood landscape and adding color to the streets of Jingumae.
This group project is also sponsored by Sticker App, which included 40 stickers designed by the artists.
Hyemin Yoo, who was one of the selected artists, exchanged stories and shared insights into the life of Koho Haramura in the neighbourhood.
“A spot in her heart"
‘A spot in her heart’ is inspired by the life of Kaho Haramura. Living in Jingumae 2-chome has been a dream. Especially, her time at the curry restaurant, Mokubaza, where she connected the most. While working there, Kaho has kept an office job in the beauty industry and continued chasing her creative passion in singing and baking pastries. The illustration shows different versions of Kaho’s life as the customers and staff. Mokubaza may disappear but it always has a spot in her heart.
