How Hyemin started art?
Hyemin has been on a long journey called ‘Art’. Fun, happiness and endless anxiety. When she won the first prize in primary school, it hooked her into this creative life. She used to feel happy and proud of herself. This feeling would be forgotten while learning art deeper in schools. Why did teachers have to say “She couldn’t be as good as talented artists in the world.”, “Be realistic.”. Despite living in the uninspiring environment, she didn’t want to end this art journey.
Hyemin moved to Australia with a working holiday visa from South Korea in 2018. The new culture inspired her to begin an art brand named after herself, ‘hyemina’. In South Korea, it is known as a friendly way to call somone, ‘her/his first name’ + ‘ah’.
Hyemin had her first studio nook filled with a small amount of equipment. This place allowed her to pursue her only dream.
Hyemin has documented her life as an artist in Australia on her Youtube channel, ‘hyemina’ since 2019 to show how we can develops an art career. Hyemin has done experimental projects. Eventually, her art reached out to intertnational brands where have needed the comedic and cute art style of Hyemin.
Despite the achievement, Hyemin can’t help having nightmare about shaming and unpleasing moments that she has wanted to erase from her life. Oneday, Hyemin came up with an idea of upcycling the experience in a fun art project. With the material, Hyemin has worked on a graphic novel in her comedic and cute art style.
